Nowadays one could say that cricket season is at full swing where the much celebrated PSL came to an exciting end there the ASIA CUP is all set to entertain masses there was a time when ASIA CUP was more like a triangular series between Pakistan, India and Sri lanka but now the time has changed and Bangladesh is also become a force, UAE team is also into the tournament.
The thirteenth edition of Asia Cup has already started on 24th February in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This mega tournament will end on 6th March. The event started on 24 February, will be even more important as the World T20 Championship is around the corner and for the first time this tournament will be played in T20 format unlike the previous editions which were One-Day International matches. The continental tournament will help the teams in building the momentum and it will be a trailer of what will happen next month in India.
Third time in a row Bangladesh is hosting the Asia Cup, as other teams did not want to come to Pakistan and Sri Lanka is not ready to organize it whereas India is already hosting the T20 world cup.
In last tournament held in 2014, Pakistan had reached the final after beating India, Indians will surely never let slip that match between the two nations from their minds in 2014 when the Boom Boom Afridi once again made it big with his blaster sixers which helped Pakistan get a historic win in Mirpur. Afridi had also made many Bangladeshi fans cry after scoring fifty off just 18 balls and stunned the hosts by helping Pakistan chase 327 runs target.
Sri Lanka will have a relatively less experienced team this time, as they have won last edition with the help of their legendary batsmen Kumara Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene but both of them retired after World Cup last year. Even the associate team will have a fair chance to make an upset as T20 format is short and anything can happen in few overs.
Three matches have already finished but the most thrilling match is yet to happen today. Now the winning crown goes to which opponent is something to really watch. For though Afridi’s retirement is still a blurr he has a good opportunity to repeat his remarkable performance of that memorable match in 2014 and give a reason to smile to his fans.
Considering the inexperienced Sri Lankan team, India and Pakistan will probably meet in the final again and it will be some fun to see both sides know eachother’s weaknesses and strengths ahead of the all-important clash in the World T20 Championship.
