Mahira Khan, Sheheryar Munawar and Adeel Hussain the three young stars of the forthcoming coming-of-age Pakistani musical drama film ‘Ho Mann Jahaan’ directed by impresario Asim Raza were recently the celebrity show-stoppers for haute couturier Umar Sayeed during his ‘Elysian’ showcase at FPW 15’s Winter Festive. The trio looked glamorous and flirted on the ramp according to their characters in the film. Umar Sayeed has provided the bulk of Mahira’s formal looks in the movie.
This was happy and positive “dressing up” as compared to Mahira’s recent apparent faux pas posturing at image consultant Nabila Maqsood’s Halloween party.
Earlier Mahira and fellow Pakistani actor Fawad Khan were targeted by the Shiv Sena who vowed not to allow the actors to promote their upcoming films in Maharashtra.
Mahira is all set to make her Bollywood debut with Rahul Dholakia’s “Raees” in which she stars alongside Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan which is slated to be released on Eid Day 2016.
“We have taken a stand not to allow any Pakistani actor, cricketer or performer to step on Maharashtra soil,” said Chitrapat Sena general secretary Akshay Bardapurkar.
Initially Mahira chose to remain silent but later posted a picture of her dressed as Catwoman standing next to her director and good friend Asim Raza. Asim quite boldly yet unfortunately was dressed up as a Shiv sainik in saffron garb holding a placard which read ‘Mahira Ko Bahar Nikalo’ (Get Mahira out of here).
Soon after Mahira posted a series of tweets saying that her photo was misconstrued. She said it was unintentional and she did not want to make any political statement.
Here are the tweets from the actress:
“The Shiv Sena Halloween party photograph was unfortunate and was taken out of context.” Mahira told this journalist during a recent interview. “Anyone who knows me knows that I would never make a political statement like that intentionally. I aim to remain apolitical and focused on my career. I am an artist and I want to do good work . With the release of Raees I hope this will show some people that the crazy exchange of artists between Pakistan and India is a great thing and is not about working in Bollywood, Hollywood or even Lollywoood but about doing great collaborative and artistic work.”
As for her response to Lollywood film actress Meera’s supposition that Mahira had stolen the thunder from under Meera’s feet by supplanting her and working with Shahrukh Khan in Raees, Mahira smiled widely and diplomatically said
“I could not possibly be expected to respond to such a statement!”
Mahira also offered that after working on Raees and Ho Mann Jahaan almost simultaneously and back- to-back she has been reading a Pakistani script which has really interested her.
So after Ho Mann Jahaan look forward to soon see Mahira stun in another Pakistani film.
Not that she has at all been deterred to work in Bollywood or even Hollywood for that matter!
