Amid the hustle and bustle of the city, most Karachites find solace in books. The 10th Annual Karachi International Book Fair, (KIBF) organized from 19th December to 22nd December was a treat for book worms, who attended the event with zeal. The event was organized by Pakistan Publishers and Booksellers Association at Expo Center.

About 350 stalls were set up and more than a hundred publishers and distributors exhibited their books. From original editions to used books, autobiographies to textbooks and poetry to history, hundreds of books were showcased for visitors.

Hall 1, 2 and 3 were dedicated to 10th Annual KIBF. It was evident by the crowd that they enjoyed every minute of their visit as everyone was busy drooling over the huge collection of books and buying the ones they liked.

Most of the stalls in Hall 2 were of religious books written by prominent scholars and authors of different eras. It was heartwarming to witness such a massive collection of religious literature under one roof.

In comparison to the previous years, there was a marked increase in the number of children books. These included interactive, easy to understand and animated ones and encouraged numerous parents to buy books for their children. I am hopeful that reading at a young age will instill love for books in kids.

Books from multiple languages including English, Urdu, Punjabi etc. were also available on the stalls – that too at discounted prices!

Major publishing companies of Pakistan participated in this event. Oxford University Press, Paramount Books, Gaba Books, Liberty Books, Faiz-e-Mushtaq, Children Publications, Fiction House Lahore, Learners’ Educational Publishers, Federal Urdu University, EMKAY Books International, Hachett Children’s Book and countless others were just a few names that participated and displayed some great books.

Let’s hope that such kind of events are organized on a regular basis as this will aid in building a literate and well informed nation which, in times like these, is a dire need.
