Passengers must self-isolate, won't be tested at airport
Lahore has closed its five quarantine centres and one temporary hospital as the Punjab government has decided that it won’t be conducting the coronavirus tests of incoming passengers or quarantining them anymore.
More than 12,500 passengers have been told to self-isolate at their homes. They will no longer be provided transport from the airport to their houses.
The administration has spent Rs150 million in two months on passengers returning to the country, according to the deputy commissioner.
The centres were set up in Kala Shah Kaku, Thokar Niaz Baig, the University of Punjab, the University of Lahore and Gaddafi Stadium-Nishtar Park. A temporary hospital in Kala Shah Kaku has been closed too.
The centre at Lahore university comprised 250 beds and Rs0.8 million was spent on its expenditure, while Rs1.3 million was spent on the 200 bed centre in Thokar Niaz Baig. The administration was spending Rs0.8 million on Kala Shah Kaku’s temporary hospital.
