The district administration of Islamabad has decided seal five more areas of the capital city starting June 24 as coronavirus cases spike.
The administration has decided to expand the smart lockdown to sectors G-61, G-62, G-72 and G-10/4. Residents of these areas have been instructed to purchase all necessary items before 7pm.
Dozens of new cases have been reported in these areas in the last few day, the administration noted. Hot spots have also been identified in multiple areas of Ghauri Town.
According to Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat, the move was taken to curb the growing number of cases. He has requested people to cooperate with the administration.
Previously, sectors I-8, I-10, G-9 and the Karachi Company Markaz were sealed after the total coronavirus count in Islamabad crossed 10,000.
Shafqaat revealed that the smart lockdown strategy has helped decrease the overall number of cases. “Further decisions will be taken after samples of people in these areas are taken and tested,” he added.
