A man was arrested for burning his parents and five siblings while they were asleep in Sialkot’s Daska on Sunday, according to the police.

The family was immediately shifted to a hospital after the police reached the crime scene. Five people died on spot and two are in critical condition.

The suspect had sprinkled petrol on his family while they were asleep and set them on fire. “All of them were sleeping in one room, so he locked the door from the outside and ran away,” a police officer said.

The man admitted to his crime in police custody. “I had not been going to work for a few days because of which my father had scolded me,” he said, adding that he murdered him out of anger.

“I wanted to harm my father but when the fire broke out it killed other family members as well,” the suspect added.

An FIR has been registered 18 days after the incident. Further investigations are under way.
