The government of Pakistan has extended its ban on international flight operations to and from the country until May 31.

The ban was previously decided to be removed on May 15, however, it has been extended for 16 more days.

According to a notification issued on Friday, the decision does not apply to special and chartered flights. It has ordered that strict SOPs be followed during the takeoff and landing of these flights.

Passengers who land through special flights have to be quarantined for 24 hours. PIA has been bringing back Pakistanis stuck abroad through chartered flights.

Flight operation in the country was closed following a spike in COVID-19 throughout the country. Pakistan has reported more than 36,000 cases of the deadly virus so far.
