Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Monday.

The news was confirmed by KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan. He said in a tweet that the Niaz tested positive for the virus while diligently performing his duties to fight it day and night.

Niaz had been leading the KP government’s drive against the deadly pandemic. He has been looking over things such as the implementation of SOPs, reopening of industries and arrangements for patients.

CM Khan lauded his efforts and prayed for his speedy recovery.

Niaz has been shifted into quarantine. He is still, however, heading the team and will be holding meetings on all matters online.

So far, more than 7,000 people in the province have contracted the virus.
