The Ministry of Defence has written a letter to the Finance Division seeking 20% raise in the salaries of armed forces personnel.

In its letter, the ministry said the Joint Staff Headquarters has informed that the government employees, including personnel of the armed forces, are being affected due to the current hike owing to devaluation of rupee, impact on Consumer Price Index, and an increase in utility bills and inflation.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chairman has approved the proposal for the increase in salaries of the personnel, the letter said.

“Total financial impact in respect of three services involved is Rs63.698 billion,” the ministry informed the Finance Division.
