‘Govt employees should be loyal to the state, not individuals’

Only those officers will stay on with the government who deliver, says Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

It’s the government’s administrative prerogative to transfer its functionaries, he said. “It is an administrative issue,” said the chief minister, while replying to a journalist who asked about the transfers of senior officers in the province’s bureaucracy. “It is at the discretion of the government to transfer and replace any government officer.”

The performance of ministers is being evaluated on a regular basis, he said. “Whatever the government will do, it will be in harmony with the Constitution and the law,” said Buzdar.

It is the state, not individuals, that the officers should be loyal to, he said in response to a question about the transfers of the bureaucrats associated with the PML-N.

There were nearly 4,000 union councils under the local governments system under the PML-N dispensation, he said. We have further devolved the system and 22,000 punchayats will be formed in the new system under the Local Government Act, he said.

Under the system, 33% funds will directly reach the people at grassroots level, he explained.

We want to launch an awareness campaign through the food authority before Ramazan, the chief minister said, adding that the government will announce a Ramazan package.

The chief minister said the government will ensure the implementation of all rules.
