People advised to stay home
Sector E 11 in Islamabad right next to Saidpur has been flooded with hill torrents that have swept away cars after a cloudburst.
It will take a few hours for the water to subside and people have been told to stay home. It was estimated that 123mm of rain had fallen.
This area is located next to the Margallah Hills, which is why the hill torrents developed as the water made its way down.
Rawalpindi's Nullah Ley is flooded and the army has been called in.
This was the second monsoon spell. An emergency has been declared and sirens sounded.
The rain started in Islamabad at night. Bridges have been damaged and electricity poles. Minister Sheikh Rasheed went to monitor work. "All flood-related staff is at the spot," he said.
In Rawalpindi, the rain stopped by mid-day and the water levels started to go down. It was 10 feet in New Kataria and 8ft in Gowal Mandi. Nullah Ley had 21ft of water.
In Islamabad, a woman and her child were killed by a wall collapse. By mid-day in Sector E-11, plaza and market basements have been flooded. Generators are being used to power pumps to drain the water where possible.
