Punjab coronavirus lockdown extended till July 15

The province has so far reported 75,501 COVID-19 cases

The smart lockdown in Punjab to contain the spread of coronavirus has been extended till July 15, the provincial health secretary announced Tuesday.

The decision came as the number of coronavirus cases rose to 75,501 in Punjab. The province has the highest 1,727 fatalities in the country.

Here’s how the lockdown will work:

  • Businesses will remain open Monday through Friday from 9am to 7pm
  • Educational institutions, wedding halls, restaurants, parks and cinema halls will remain closed
  • Medical stores and puncture shops will be open 24 hours a day
  • Inter-district transport will be allowed to run 24 hours a day
  • Grocery stores will be open throughout the week from 9am to 7pm
  • Social and religious gatherings, sports activities will not be allowed
  • Churches will only be open on Sundays from 7am to 5pm
  • Call centers will be allowed to function with 50% staff
