Pakistan, after electing to bat first, went on to score 308-7 in their 50 overs with Haris Sohail (89 off 59) and Babar Azam (69 off 80) starring for the Men in Green. The opening pair of Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman also both scored 44 runs each.
South Africa managed 259-9 in chase of the 309-run target as Wahab Riaz and Shadab Khan finished with three wickets apiece.
Haris Sohail was named the player of the match for his superb performance with the bat.
It was a crucial win for Pakistan after they had suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of arch-rivals India and Australia.
