Clothes were hidden inside shops in malls The Customs department seized on Sunday smuggled clothes worth millions of rupees during a raid at a clothing mall opposite Rabi Centre on Karachi’s Tariq Road. The clothes were hidden in several shops in the mall, according to Customs officials. The department has confiscated the clothes. Another Customs officer said that the shopkeepers had tried attacking them during the raid. The shopkeepers are staging protests against the raid which has affected traffic on the road. Tariq Road Action Committee Chairman Asad Aman has accused the Pakistan Customs of breaking into the shops late at night and confiscating clothes in the absence of the shopkeepers. They provided CCTV footage of the officials' raid as evidence that they broke in to the shops at night. “When the shopkeepers resisted, Customs officers fired at them,” he claimed. According to the traders, the officers forgot one of their cars which turned out to have a government number plate. The traders have called the raid a “criminal act” and want investigation into it.
