Fayaz sold his cattle to build the new plane

A man in Pakpattan, who gained fame for making and being fined for attempting to fly an airplane he built, has built a second plane in time for August 14.

Mohammad Fayaz, a popcorn seller and part-time security guard, was arrested and his aircraft was taken into custody by the police in April. He was fined Rs3,000 before being released.

“I had a plane before but it was broken by the police when they took it to the police station,” Fayaz told SAMAA TV.

He said he had sold parts of his last aircraft and cattle to build a new plane. The 32-year-old added that he will fly his aircraft on August 14 in Pakpattan.

Fayaz said he had dreamed of joining the air force as a child, but his father died while he was in still in school, forcing him to drop out of the eighth grade and do odd jobs to provide for his mother and five younger siblings.

Representatives from the Pakistan Air Force made two visits to view his first plane and the commander of a nearby base issued him a certificate praising his “passion and dexterity” in building what it described as a “mini basic aeroplane”.
