Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Hanif Abbasi was released from Camp Jail on Saturday following Lahore High Court's (LHC) decision of suspending his sentence in the ephedrine quota case.

His jail sentence has been suspended until the court announces the verdict in his appeal challenging the sentencing.

Abbasi was imprisoned for life after being convicted of obtaining a large amount of ephedrine, which is a controlled substance, and then selling it to narcotic smugglers. A trial court had sentenced him on July 21, 2018. He was completing the sentence at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.

Abbasi, who was the PML-N’s candidate for Rawalpindi’s NA-60, could not contest election after the judgement.
