Voting begins to elect Karachi’s new deputy mayor

Polling began at 9am on Thursday to elect Karachi’s deputy mayor. 

Votes are being cast in the KMC’s Council Hall and polling will continue till 5pm.

The first vote was cast by PML-N’s Aman Afridi. Three hundred voters will decide who will become the city’s new deputy mayor.

All offices at the KMC have been closed for the election.

The post of deputy mayor was left vacant after the disqualification of Arshad Vohra. The MQM had petitioned the ECP to have him disqualified after he left their party to join the Mustafa Kamal-led PSP.

MQM’s Arshad Hasan and PPP’s Karamullah Waqasi are now competing for the slot.
