The Sharif family laid the foundation of corruption in Pakistan, said Information Minister Chaudhry in a press conference on Sunday.
He criticised the policies of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari.
“Two families have ruled Pakistan since the beginning,” he said while throwing shade at the Bhutto and Sharif families. “They looted the country. It is because of them that Pakistan’s debt has increased to $60 billion.”
An investigation into money laundering revealed that “economic hitman” Ishaq Dar was appointed just for this. “Dar introduced a new way of laundering money. He made fake accounts and sent money abroad through were said abroad through hawala hundi (illegal money transfer),” he claimed.
The corruption in Hudaibiya Mills set a pattern of corruption in other firms too. “The pattern was replicated in Hill Metal Establishment too,” he remarked.
While Nawaz used fake accounts to launder money, Zardari brought a new innovation to it. “He set up an entire bank to launder money,” he claimed.
The FIA has investigated over 5,000 fake accounts. These accounts were used to pay for the airfare of Ayyan Ali as well as expenses of Bilawal House, said the federal minister.
