PM Khan tells petroleum minister to leave his portfolio: sources

April 18, 2019

Petroleum Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan has been told to resign from his current portfolio by Prime Minister Imran Khan, sources in the petroleum ministry told SAMAA TV.

Sarwar called on PM Khan on Thursday and he is likely to announce his decision soon.

The decision comes a few hours after Asad Umar stepped down from his post as the finance minister.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad on Thursday, Umar said that PM Khan wanted him to take over as the energy minister but he didn’t believe that was the right move. But that doesn’t mean he has washed his hands of the PTI.

There are reports that the portfolio of State Minister for Interior Shehryar Afridi will be changed too.

SAMAA TV asked State Minister for Interior Shehryar Afridi if his portfolio is being changed too and he replied: “I am ready for anything. I will accept any decision taken by PM Khan.”
