The newly reshuffled cabinet of Prime Minister Imran Khan will meet today (Tuesday).
The cabinet is expected to take up a 16-point agenda. The tax amnesty scheme will not be discussed in today’s session.
The cabinet is expected to approve the appointment of a finance member of NHA and judicial member for Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue. The members will be briefed on the country’s educational policies. They are expected to approve the Drought Response Plan 2019.
A standing committee will present its recommendations on the increasing prices of commodities. The federal ministers are expected to approve some decisions of the Economic Coordination Committee too.
The cabinet has undergone a major reshuffle after former finance minister Asad Umar stepped down after being offered the energy portfolio. He has been replaced by Dr Hafeez Sheikh, who has been appointed as finance adviser.
Fawad Chaudhry, who was serving as information minister, has been given the portfolio of science and technology. In his place, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has been appointed as the special assistant to the prime minister on the information.
Brig (retd) Ijaz Shah has been named as the interior minister. He was serving as the minister for parliamentary affairs.
PM Khan has appointed Azam Swati as the parliamentary affairs minister. He had stepped down as the minister for science and technology last year.
The petroleum ministry has been taken away from Ghulam Sarwar Khan. He has been now been given the aviation ministry. Previously, the additional charge for the aviation ministry was with Privatisation Minister Mohammad Mian Soomro. He will cease to hold the additional charge now.
Nadeem Babar, who was heading the PM’s task force on energy reforms, has been appointed as the the special assistant to the prime minister on petroleum division.
Aamir Mehmood Kiyani, however, has been ousted as the national health services, regulations, and coordination minister. Dr Zafarullah Mirza has been named as PM’s special assistant on national health services.
