A Peshawar accountability court adjourned a case against PPP leaders Asma and Arbab Alamgir till May 27 while allowing Asma to leave the country to perform Umrah.

During a hearing on Monday in the assets beyond known means of income case against the couple, two of NAB’s witnesses recorded their statements.

Other witnesses will record their statements at the next hearing.

Speaking to the media outside the court, Arbab said that the case is progressing very slowly. They’re after the salary issue but I never said I didn’t take my salary, he said.

Asma thanked the court for proving there was an independent judiciary in Pakistan. The high court has taken my name off the ECL, she said.

They’re talking about our assets from two years ago, she said. “What happened about the helicopter case? Is the prime minister not a citizen of this country?” she asked, referring to a case against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

For four years we have been giving NAB our asset records, she lamented.
