The Peshawar district administration arrested on Thursday a butcher suspected of supplying the meat of dead animals in the city, Peshawar deputy commissioner said.
Muhammad Ali Asghar, the deputy commissioner, received information that the meat of dead animals is being supplied to various markets in Peshawar.
A team, led by Assistant Commissioner Sarah Rehman, stopped a Suzuki truck carrying the meat. The district director of the livestock department checked the meat on the spot and declared it unhygienic.
In his report, he said that the animals were slaughtered after their death. The suspect has been shifted to jail.
The butcher confessed to supplying the meat to a market near Ghanta Ghar Chowk. Raids are being conducted to arrest more butchers involved in the supply of such meat, a statement by the Peshawar administration said.
