Former finance minister Miftah Ismail filed has filed a petition for pre-arrest bail in the liquefied petroleum gas terminal quota case.
The petition was filed in the Islamabad High Court on Monday.
He said that he has nothing to do with the LNG case. “NAB is conducting a baseless inquiry against me. It is subjecting me to political victimisation.”
The secretary of the law ministry, NAB chairperson and the investigation officer have been named as respondents.
On April 10, the Sindh High Court approved his 10-day bail in illegal contract case against surety bonds worth Rs0.2 million. He has been accused of giving illegal contracts as the chairperson of the Sui Southern Gas.
NAB has accused Ismail and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi of causing losses worth billions of rupees to the national exchequer by illegally awarding an LNG import contract for a 15-year period to a company of their liking in 2015.
The NAB Karachi had closed the case. The investigation was reopened in October 2018.
