Karachi’s Lyari has produced a lot of gems that make every Pakistani proud. Muhammed Isa is one of them.
Isa is a sprinter. He has been taking part in races and marathon competitions for 27 years now. He took part in the national games and Sindh games too.
Isa is 51-year-old man, however, youngsters would envy his stamina.
“I took part in more than 60 contests and got positions in more than 50 of them,” Isa told SAMAA TV. “I am 51 and fitter than an 18-year-old boy.”
I never fall sick as I run a great deal, he said. The runner’s house is decked in memorials he received in recognition of his meritorious feats. However, he couldn’t make a living from his running talent. Isa had to look for other ways to meet his household expenses.
The athlete got a host of job promises from the senior officials which never materialised.
Isa has a gardener’s job at a school. He takes his bicycle to the Super Highway every day where the school is situated.
The Lyari hero has roads to train on. The KPT ground and the Peoples Stadium are located near my house, he said. However, they don’t allow me to run there.
The athlete races up to 15 kilometers during his training sessions five days a week – not an easy task for even the fittest.
