A man was killed after a police van hit his motorcycle in Lahore’s Badami Bagh Wednesday night.
Sheharyar, 19, and his two friends, Zaman and Azaan, were on the motorcycle when the accident occurred near Larri Adda. Sheharyar died on the spot while his friends were injured.
“We were returning from Sheharyar’s sister’s house,” Zaman told SAMAA TV. “The police didn’t signal us to stop or anything. We were hit from the back.” He said that the policemen didn’t even stop to help them and just drove away.
Azaan is still in the hospital.
People staged a protest in Badami Bagh over the police’s negligence. They even beat up a policeman and he ran away, leaving behind his rifle. The protesters asked the government to take action against the four police officers involved in the accident.
Sheharyar’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
He was the only brother among four sisters. He used to work with his father at a cloth shop in Azam Market’s Kashmir Block. The shopkeepers staged a protest on Thursday by not opening their shops.
A case has been registered.
