Karachi court extends remand of hospital staffer in negligence case

A Karachi court extended on Saturday the physical remand of a staffer at Darul Sehat Hospital in an attempted murder case.

Staffers at the private hospital, which is located in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, are accused of medical negligence in the case of an eight-month-old child who was brought to the facility. The girl’s family say she was administered an incorrect dose of a drug, causing her condition to become critical.

The child was later shifted to another private hospital where doctors say she has sustained brain damage. She is still being treated.

The police presented Agha Moiz, an employee at Darul Sehat Hospital, before a court on Saturday for an extension in his remand. The man has changed his statement. He earlier said he administered the injection to the infant but now claims he did not.

The police told the court that they want to interrogate Moiz and other employees further. The court granted the police’s request and extended his remand till April 22 while also summoning the hospital’s CCTV footage at the next hearing.
