Update: Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram restored after temporary outage

April 14, 2019

Imagine if Facebook and some of its apps — such as Instagram and WhatsApp — were to all go down at about the same time? People around the world experienced such an outage for three hours on Sunday.

Facebook and its apps have as many as 2.7 billion users around the world.

The problem started at around 3:28 PST, and affected people in countries including the US, Europe, and Asia, according to DownDetector, an analytics service that calls itself a weather report for the internet.

Facebook users logged to empty news feeds, while profiles refused to load on Instagram. WhatsApp users had trouble sending and receiving messages.

The users of social media website Twitter took to the micro-blogging website to inform others that the application was not working, using the hashtags #FacebookDown and #InstagramDown.

Facebook has yet to comment on the outage.
