Court to hear NAB’s second reference in fake accounts case

An accountability court has been forwarded NAB’s second reference in the fake accounts case. 

The Pink Residency reference was filed on April 8. The registrar has completed its scrutiny and sent it to Accountability Court-II.

A total of 19 people have been named in the case, including former president Asif Ali Zardari’s close aides such as Aftab Memon, Omi Group head Abdul Ghani Majeed. They have been accused of illegally allotting government land to Pink Residency. It caused a loss of Rs2.5 billion to the national exchequer.

On April 3, NAB filed its first reference in the fake accounts case. It has been filed against former KMC administrator Hussain Syed, former metropolitan commissioner Matanat Ali Khan, Sameeuddin Siddiqui, Najamuzzaman, Syed Khalid Zafar Hashmi, Saeed Jameel Ahmed, Abdul Rasheed, and others.

The suspects have been accused of illegally allotting the land reserved for building temples and libraries. According to NAB, the suspects illegally granted the land to former president Asif Ali Zardari and business partner Younus Kidwai. It has seized two plots worth Rs600 million in Karachi’s Clifton.
