A bailiff raided on Saturday a private lockup being used by policemen in Pakpattan and found a young man chained up.

The lockup was located near the City police station and being used by officers of the Arifwala police. A suspended policeman, Ashiq, was also present when the bailiff arrived and reportedly shoved him.

The police said they arrested the man, identified as Arsalan, on charges of theft.

The Arifwala SHO said that he was arrested by SI Manzoor on Saturday morning after he was named in a theft case. The entry was made in the log book, he said.

Around 10:30am they took him for interrogation and to recover the stolen items and that’s when the bailiff came, he said.

But Arsalan says the police are lying. A request for his recovery was filed on April 16, he said.

According to him, he worked for people who overworked and underpaid him. When I asked them to raise my salary, they made me work all day and then handed me over to the police in the evening, he said.

Arsalan was presented before a court where the judge asked the police to submit an explanatory report.
