The price of tomatoes in Karachi is going up. Tomatoes are being sold at Rs150 per kilogramme in some areas of the city.

According to the official rate list, first rate tomatoes should be sold for Rs100 per kilogramme at the wholesale market and Rs105 per kilogramme at the regular market.

Second rate tomatoes are supposed to be sold at the wholesale market at Rs75 per kilo and Rs80 per kilo in the regular market.

However, tomatoes are being sold for between Rs120 and Rs150 per kilo.

But this has to do with India and its farmers’ threat to stop the supply of tomatoes to Pakistan. There was a late harvest and not enough tomatoes were brought into the market.

Shopkeepers say that regardless of the price, people are buying the vegetables.
