Whoever wins the match today, cricket, Karachi and the people of Pakistan have won, said Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah at the opening ceremony of the PSL final at Karachi's National Stadium Sunday.

The jubilant chief minister hyped up the crowd ahead of the PSL final and said the match being held in the city is Karachi's victory.

"Today, Karachi has won," he said. "We have done it," he called out victoriously.

"Two years ago, in this ground I vowed that we will bring the PSL to Karachi. Last year, we had the final here and this year all the matches held in Pakistan were held held in Karachi. This victory is Karachi’s," he said.

"God willing, like [PCB Chairperson Ehsan] Mani saab said, next year all the matches will be in Pakistan," he said. Karachi, Hyderabad, Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, Quetta and Peshawar, they can all host the PSL like Karachi and they will be successful, he said.

Shah thanked the people of Karachi and the people of Sindh who had come to the matches and made them such a success. He also thanked the organisers who worked with the PCB and the administration, police, Rangers and armed forces. Thank you and congratulations, he said.

The government of Sindh will keep trying to bring international cricket back to Pakistan and it will start at the National Stadium, he said.

"I am also grateful to the international players who have come to Karachi and I hope that after your stay here, we will see a great match of cricket today," said the chief minister. Peshawar and Quetta are both good teams but whichever team wins, the win will be cricket's, Karachi’s and the people of Pakistan's, he said.

During his speech he also condemned the deaths of 50 people who were killed in the Christchurch attacks in New Zealand on Friday, he condoled with their families and prayed for them.
