Three people were killed and a child injured during an exchange of fire between two related families in Mardan, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place in the city area of Mayar where two groups of relatives broke into a fight that was initially started among the women of both families.
The relatives reportedly had frequent brawls over family issues. “Bahadur Sher killed my sons,” a man from the aggrieved family said. “I demand justice. My sons have been killed on the roads.”
They had engaged in a fight over an issue involving the women [of the families], said SP Operations Mushtaq Ahmed. “All of them are cousins to each other. One of their cousins was making an effort to strike a settlement.” However, they couldn’t reach a compromise, he said.
The bodies were returned to the families for burial. The suspects who opened fire are on the run, police say.
