Prime Minister Imran Khan announced on Friday a wide-reaching health insurance package for 112,000 families living in Tharparkar under the Sehat Insaf Card scheme.
Addressing a public gathering in Chachro, PM Khan said he chose Tharparkar for his visit as it is the least developed area in the country and 75% of its residents live below the poverty line.
“The government is introducing the Sehat Insaf Card under which there will be Rs720,000 available per family,” said PM Khan. “This insurance can be used at any hospital around the country.”
He also announced that two mobile hospitals will also be introduced for the people. The hospitals will have all facilities including operation theatres. Work on the hospitals will begin shortly, he said.
Regarding water scarcity in the area, the premier said that 100 reverse osmosis plants will also be set up in Thar to provide clean drinking water. “The government is also working to provide electricity in Thar using solar power,” he said.
PM Khan also said that in India minorities are being subjected to exploitation and discrimination but the Pakistani government is providing all possible facilities to minority communities, particularly Hindus.
He also stressed that Pakistan wants peace and stability in neighbouring Afghanistan.
