Peshawar CCPO Qazi Jamil revealed on SAMAA TV morning show Naya Din that at least 675 people have been arrested for smuggling crystal meth in Peshawar since 2018.
“In the past one year, over 475 cases have been registered in which around 675 people have been arrested for the consumption and the smuggling a drug called ice,” said Jamil. He added that around 75 kilogrammes of ice have been seized during the operations.
The police have rounded up a large number of drug dealers in the last few weeks. He said the force is working on developing an intelligence network for further identification of ice manufacturers, sellers, distributors, and peddlers.
In January, the police busted multiple factories in Peshawar and recovered a huge quantity of the drug. He said the police had launched a crackdown to make Peshawar free of ice and other drugs.
“A special campaign has been launched across the province,” said Jamil.
“Senior police officers are arranging seminars and walks in order to sensitize students of different educational institutions against the deadly menace,” he said. “The number of drug users is increasing at an alarming rate in KP,” he remarked.
He suggested that the government should set up more rehabilitation centres. Five drug rehabilitation centres have been set up in Peshawar alone.
