Peshawar police foiled a bid to smuggle automatic weapons to Punjab on Friday.

One suspect was taken into custody, said DSP Fazal Wahid, adding that the weapons were kept in secret compartments of a trailer.

The large cache of weapons was being smuggled from Darra Adam Khel, a town located in between Kohat and Peshawar, to Punjab. Police seized around 140 rifles and thousands of bullets in the raid.

The arrested suspect was identified as Mir Mohammad Khan. He is from Parachinar. A case has been registered and an inquiry initiated against the smuggler at the Matni police station.
