All people trapped in the building have been rescued
Two people died and five others were injured after they jumped off a 14-storey building that caught fire in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal Thursday afternoon.
The fire erupted on the third and fourth floors of the Noor Trade Centre on University Road. It was controlled after three hours and the building has now been sealed.
Seven people were injured when they jumped from the building to save themselves from the flames. One died at Civil Hospital while six others were taken to JPMC where another person died. The young man who died at Civil Hospital was around 20 years old. Hospital officials say the people admitted to JPMC are in critical condition.
Pakistan Navy helicopters were used to airlift people trapped in the building off the roof to safety.
Eyewitnesses told SAMAA TV that there were no emergency exits in the building. The staircase inside the building is being used for the rescue operation, they said. There is also no emergency exit accessible from the roof.
