Two dead, five injured after 14-storey building catches fire in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal

March 21 , 2019

All people trapped in the building have been rescued

Two people died and five others were injured after they jumped off a 14-storey building that caught fire in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal Thursday afternoon.

The fire erupted on the third and fourth floors of the Noor Trade Centre on University Road. It was controlled after three hours and the building has now been sealed.

Seven people were injured when they jumped from the building to save themselves from the flames. One died at Civil Hospital while six others were taken to JPMC where another person died. The young man who died at Civil Hospital was around 20 years old. Hospital officials say the people admitted to JPMC are in critical condition.

Pakistan Navy helicopters were used to airlift people trapped in the building off the roof to safety.

Eyewitnesses told SAMAA TV that there were no emergency exits in the building. The staircase inside the building is being used for the rescue operation, they said. There is also no emergency exit accessible from the roof.

The supreme Court should reprimand all builders for not following building code and regulations. If they are undergoing antiencroachment , building code and regulations is paramount .

There I no doubt that our past or recent governments are not sincere to strictly adhere highrise buildings safety rules n take strong action against violater for non compliance & implementation of safety for their citizens. But it’s equally responsibilities of every individual to not buy any apartment in multi stories building which is not provide emergency escap exit.

MOST OF THE WORKS ARE UNDERTAKEN BY THE STAFF HIERARCHY THEMSLAVES .SO ALL OS IN THEIR HANDS TP WHOM COMPLAIN ?
CBC AND CBF ARE IN MUCH BETTER CONDITIONS
IT IS SUGGESTED TO BIFURCATE SBCA KARACHI INTO 4 ZONES LIKE DISTRICTS LIKE EAST WEST SOUTH MALIR WITH EXECUTIVE POWERS TO CONTROL THE ARCHITECT ENGINEERS AND BUILDERS.

I want to ask from u people to highlight this or take prompt action so the government consider the case why there is no such fire exist and emergency exist in the 12th floor buildings. Who approved their maps for construction? Who gave them permission? And who is responsible for this huge loss of many lives???

My Friend and Class Mate(Student Of Iqra University) Syeda Sualeha who was working as an internee lost her life on Sunday due to smoke inhalation. She was interning in an office situated in Noor trade centre when it caught fire on March 21, 2019. She was on the 7th floor and had 37% burns. In the absence of an emergency exit, She had to take the same stairs that had a lot of smoke and inhaled the same smoke. She was alive when she came out but her lungs and her body were unable to take the extensive trauma she suffered. She succumbed to her wounds and passed away last night. 2 people already have died due to the incident. We want the building authorities to be held responsible for her death! How did a building plan got approved without an emergency fire exit? We want the owner of the building and the people who passed the map to be held responsible and KDA to do an inspection on buildings and whether they fulfill the necessary requirements.
