Don’t be fooled by a pretty face. Over the past two years, a group of men have been conned out of at least Rs10 million by scam artists pretending to be women.
They made a fake Facebook account to scam people out of their money. The Karachi police arrested on Friday two members of a four-member group involved in the scam.
They have been identified as Taimur and Adeel. They used to search for businessmen or rich men online and send them friend requests from ‘Nimra’s’ Facebook account. Nimra would then befriend the men and start asking for ‘gifts’. The gifts ranged from mobile phones to hundreds of thousands of rupees.
The police believe they have arrested the mastermind of the group but ‘Nimra’ still eludes them.
Over two years, they stole Rs10 million, said Clifton SP Suhai Aziz.
Adeel and Taimur would sell the phones and other presents while Waleed would act as their delivery man.
The police believe many men didn’t file complaints out of embarrassment.
