Prime Minister Imran Khan directed on Monday the concerned authorities to return the money received from over billed gas consumers. He has allotted at least Rs500 million for the purpose.
PM Imran directed the finance ministry to issue the sanctioned amount of money to be given to the affected gas consumers.
The received money will be returned to the consumers in phases, the PM said. In the meantime, the premier directed the authorities to offer relief to the consumers in bills for the months of April, May and June.
At least 45,000 household gas consumers were over billed.
“The PTI-led government won’t allow any injustice to the citizens,” said Federal Minister for Petroleum Ghulam Sarwar Khan on March 15. “The over-billed gas consumers would be compensated.”
He was speaking at a meeting of the Senate’s standing committee on petroleum. He said the inquiry report brought to the fore the over-billing issue. He announced the over-billed money will be reimbursed to the consumers. The additional money will be adjusted in the upcoming utility bills, he said.
The federal minister pledged that strict action will be taken against those found responsible for the inflated gas bills.
On March 11, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited also announced compensation for over-billed gas consumers in compliance with the prime minister’s directions.
