A Karachi banking court has approved NAB’s request to have a fake accounts case transferred to an accountability court.
The verdict was initially reserved. The court announced its ruling in NAB’s favour Friday morning .
This case involved PPP leaders Asif Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur, among others. All the suspects have obtained pre-arrest bail in the case. Nimr Majeed, Omni Group Chairperson Anwar Majeed’s son, is also on bail in the case.
With the court approving NAB’s request, their bail is automatically cancelled. The PPP leaders had prepared bail applications to be submitted to the Sindh High Court in case the verdict was announced in NAB’s favour.
Speaking to the media, Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani said that even though all the suspects, companies involved and investigating agencies are in Sindh, the case will be heard in Rawalpindi. This is discrimination and against the basic principles of justice, he said. He reiterated that this is not new to the PPP and that they have faced discrimination in the past.
Anwar Majeed’s sons Nimr Majeed, Ali Kamal and Zulqarnain Majeed left the banking court soon after the verdict was announced to approach the Sindh High Court for bail.
