The wedding halls of Karachi will soon have a new government order to follow.

It has been decided that wedding halls are allowed to remain open till 11pm only. The decision was made in a meeting chaired by Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shalwani on Thursday.

The meeting was attended by senior police and government officials, including deputy commissioners. It was said that the decision will be implemented strictly.

“No ceremony will be allowed to continue after the clock strikes 11pm,” it was said. “In case the halls are not shut down at the proposed time, disciplinary action will be taken.” The possibility of sealing off wedding halls found violating the restriction was also discussed. A campaign in this regard will start after two weeks.

The issue of traffic congestion on the roads where wedding halls are located was also discussed. Officials suggested certain measures to maintain the flow of traffic. Personnel of the police and local government will take part in a crackdown against wedding halls operating after 11pm. The officials will, however, sit again next week to finalise the details.

The Karachi commissioner urged people to cooperate with the city administration and called upon the owners of wedding halls to implement the decision.
