In the past few months, a new wave of violence against political leaders seems to be emerging in Karachi. 

SAMAA Digital takes a look at some of the attacks in the recent past.

March 22, 2019

Four people, including Mufti Shahab of Darul Uloom Korangi, were killed after attackers opened fire on two cars at Karachi’s Nipa Chowrangi in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Mufti Shahab’s driver and guard were also killed.

Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani, whose car was also attacked, escaped unhurt. His police guard was killed and driver injured.

February 11, 2019

A man was killed and another sustained injuries after unidentified men attacked MQM-Pakistan’s union council office in New Karachi.

Four or five people on motorcycles attacked MQM-P’s union council office, Central SSP Arif Rao said, adding that the suspects used both small and heavy weapons.

January 25, 2019

PTI MPA Ramzan Ghanchi was injured when a UC chairperson’s son allegedly opened fire at him. The firing occurred after the two fought over a pipeline in Karachi’s Ghas Mandi, said SSP Muqaddas Haider.

Ghanchi was shot in his leg and was shifted to a private hospital.

December 25, 2018

Former MQM MNA Ali Raza Abidi was killed in a targeted attack outside his residence on Defence’s Khayaban-e-Ghazi in Karachi.

December 24, 2018

Two people were killed and two injured after gunmen opened fire on a PSP office in Karachi. The workers who died were identified as Naeem and Azhar. According to the police, the incident occurred in Usmania Society in Nazimabad. Four people entered the office and opened fire. The authorities have recovered 11 shells of 9mm pistols from the scene.

December 9, 2018

At least eight people, including MQM-Pakistan Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui’s coordinator, were injured in a cracker attack at a Mehfil-e-Milad in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Khawaja Izharul Hassan was present when the attack occurred but he escaped unscathed. The Mehfil-e-Milad was organised by the party near Perfume Chowk.
