The Rangers arrested on Tuesday night a 10-member group involved in looting millions from around 150 residents of Karachi through an online car selling website.

The Rangers conducted raids in Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Surjani Town to arrest the suspects.

The group would post ads on the website, advertising cars cheaper than the market price. Sometimes, they would also show people the cars at government auction lots and claim that they had put the cars up for auction as well.

People paid the group around Rs1.1 million to purchase the cars but once they got their money, the group would turn off their phones and disappear.

The Rangers say they traced the group through their phone numbers and other intelligence.

They had been looting people through the website for six years, since 2012, according to officials.

Before the their crime went digital, they would do the same thing using newspaper advertisements.
