The Supreme Court has given Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah 15 days to pay for using his picture in provincial government advertisements.
“Will the chief minister pay this fine or his party [the PPP]?” asked Chief Justice Saqib Nisar during the hearing on Thursday. He told them to decide who will be paying the fine.
The chief justice was hearing a suo motu notice on advertisements by the Sindh, Punjab and KP governments. The former chief minister of Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif, paid the fine out of his own pocket, he said.
The court also directed the KP government to submit its reply on the publication of former chief minister Pervez Khattak’s picture in two advertisements by Monday.
The KP information secretary submitted a report seeking 10 days to submit a reply, but the court rejected the report. Justice Nisar remarked that the KP government was attempting to mislead the court and imposed a Rs20,000 fine on KP Information Secretary Hazrat Masud Mian.
We will call Pervez Khattak, the former KP chief minister, tomorrow, said Justice Nisar.
