The Supreme Court dissolved the Punjab Healthcare Commission board on Saturday and ordered the formation of a new board.
During a hearing at its Lahore Registry on Saturday, a two-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar ordered that a new board be formed with members of good repute.
Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan said the institution is a regulator but instead there are politics afoot. Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid informed the court that the board had been formed on the orders of the Supreme Court.
I had high hopes from you, Justice Nisar told Dr Rashid. “What kind of people have you included in the board?” he asked her.
Members Hussain Naqi and Aamir Raza’s verbal exchange had nothing to do with the rest of us, said another board member Shafqat.
The court had summoned the board members and health minister to ascertain the reasons for the resignation of Justice (retd) Amir Raza Khan as the board’s head.
The board should be unbiased and independent, said Justice Nisar.
