of water tankers owners on Shahrah-e-Faisal in Karachi on Thursday, June 02, 2016.

A massive traffic jam was reported on Karachi’s Shahrae Faisal and its surrounding areas on Thursday following a protest over delay in approval of new water connections.

The thoroughfare has been blocked from Karsaz to Awami Markaz. The route leading to the airport is temporarily closed too. The traffic coming from Tower to the airport is being shifted to Shah Faisal Colony.

Traffic is being diverted to alternate routes. Only two tracks of Shahre Faisal are open for traffic.

The protest is being staged by members of the Association Builders and Developers against the water and sewerage board.

At least 2,000 people, including MQM-P’s Farooq Sattar and PTI’s Alamgir Khan, have been protesting for the last three hours.

The protesters say that they haven’t been provided with a no-objection certificate for water connections for new buildings. KWSB’s failure to issue NoC has halted the construction of 550 buildings, they say.
