Body of man ‘beaten to death’ in China to arrive in Pakistan today

November 19, 2018

After a video surfaced on social media of a Pakistani man being ‘beaten to death’ in China, the man’s family has confirmed that he has died.

The body of Usama Ahmad Khan, who was studying in China, is being brought back to Pakistan today (Monday) from Beijing. The flight is scheduled to land in Islamabad at 10pm. His family in Bahawalpur, where he was from, say they will not comment on his death until they get the postmortem report, however, they have denied that Khan is the man being beaten in the video.

A video of a man being beaten by two Chinese men on a public street went viral on social media. According to the original poster, he was killed by the father and brother of the girl he was dating. Social media users identified the man as Khan.

Khan passed away on November 12. The video went viral on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Khan committed suicide in Shenyang city in China’s Liaoning province. He was a student of Shenyang Jianzhu University. The statement said that an embassy official visited the city where he met students and faculty of the university as well as the police.

The Foreign Office said the video being circulated on social media is fake and is not actually of Khan.
