Balochistan Assembly speaker Abdul Quddus Bizenjo threatens to resign

He developed differences with the CM over the appointment of a special assistant

Balochistan Assembly Speaker Abdul Quddus Bizenjo has threatened to resign if he is not taken into confidence on official matters.

Sources in the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) called it a ‘political move’ and said that there are differences within the party on a lot of matters. Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal and Bizenjo developed differences that worsened after the appointment of special assistants to the CM.

The CM appointed four people as his special assistants on November 4. This included Rameen Muhammad Hassani, who is Bizenjo’s biggest political opponent in his constituency. He strongly opposed Hassani’s appointment and had reservations with some other government decisions as well.

Former CM Bizenjo wants funds for his constituency and wants to play an important role in government affairs. When Kamal didn’t pay heed to his demands, Bizenjo threatened to resign from the speaker’s post to put pressure on the chief minister.

But according to the sources in the BAP, he has resorted to such tactics in the past. He did the same to get his desired post after the general elections as well.

Balochistan Government Spokeswoman Bushra Rind said that the party hasn’t received any news of Bizenjo’s resignation.

Information Minister Zahoor Buledi said that Bizenjo is an important part of the BAP-led coalition government. He never expressed his reservations during the party meetings and if he has any, we will address it, he said. He added that the government is working on merit and the speaker has an important role to play. We won’t let Bizenjo go event if he wants to, he said.
