Opp leader expected to be named in the next few days
The Balochistan Assembly has been functioning without an opposition leader since the lawmakers took oath in August.
Balochistan Awami Party formed the government after securing majority seats during the July 25 general election.
In one of the sessions, Chief Minister Jam Kamal said that not having any opposition leader puts the opposition parties at a disadvantage. He remarked that the government is willing to accept the name suggested by the opposition parties for the post.
The vacant post has led to delay in appointment of chairpersons for government standing committees.
Interestingly, there are no major disagreements between opposition parties, including BNP-Mengal, MMA, PkMAP and PML-N. The parties have agreed to hold meetings to decide a name.
Sources say that the decision cannot be made without the advice of Akhtar Mengal, who is currently busy with personal commitments.
The expected contenders for the post include MMA’s Sikander Advocate, BNP-Mengal Sana Baloch and former CM Nawab Aslam Raisani, who contested as an independent candidate.
Raisani won the PB-35 constituency of Mastung with the support of the BNP-Mengal in the by-election on October 15. He is most likely to be named the opposition leader.
