Newcastle disease and shortage of water caused deaths

At least 600 peacocks have died in drought-hit Thar in the last two months.

Majority of the birds died due to Newcastle (Rani Khet) disease and the shortage of water.

“All the wells have dried, this is why the peacocks are dying,” said Abdul Ghani, an area resident.

The government has imposed emergency in Thar to control the disease.

Senator Krishna Kumari, a PPP senator from Thar, said the government will establish ponds in the area and mix the vaccine in it.
