A 50 feet wide breach in the Gulan Canal has widened to 80 feet because no one is doing anything about it. Nearby settlements and fields are being flooded.

The breach in the Gulan Canal near Chak 183, Rahim Yar Khan led to thousands of cusecs of water flooding nearby settlements and fields. The breach occurred at 11:30pm on Thursday. Ten hours later, the breach widened from 50 feet to 80 feet. Several houses in Chak 83 have also been flooded.

The assistant commissioner of the area reached the site and ordered that the breach be sealed immediately but so far, nothing has been done.

This is the second canal breach in Rahim Yar Khan this week. According to residents of the area, landowners break the banks of canals on purpose so that more water goes into their fields.
